The developers of the KDE recently announced the results of the voting on the goals that will receive increased attention in the development of KDE over the next 2 years. Out of the 10 proposed options, three main goals were selected:

  • Unification and modernization of tools for application development. This goal aims to simplify the development process to attract new participants and expand the possibilities of developing applications in languages other than C++, such as Rust and Python. It includes improving integration with IDE, reducing API fragmentation, cleaning outdated API, enhancing compatibility with QML, developing QML for functionality used in applications on Qtwidgets, improving the design of pop-up windows and menus in Qtquick, expanding documentation, and more.
  • Modernization and organizing the stack to support input devices, from high-quality support for expanded devices like graphic tablets and gaming controllers to enabling voice input, quick input of Emoji, and integrating the virtual keyboard.
  • Formalizing and strengthening processes for recruiting new project participants.

Previous goals, set in 2022, focused on enhancing accessibility for all user categories, developing applications with consideration for environmental impact, and improving the systematization of internal processes.
