GNOME 47, the latest desktop release, has been officially presented after six months of development. To showcase the capabilities of GNOME 47, a specialized live ISO has been created as part of the Gnome OS initiative. GNOME 47 is already included in the experimental builds of Ubuntu 24.10 and Fedora 41.
Key features of the new GNOME 47 release:
- Added support for configuring accent colors to select active elements, offering users multiple options to customize their experience.
- Improved performance on low-screen systems with optimized icon and interface element drawing. The issue with displaying too small icons has been resolved by automatically adjusting the icon scale levels.
- Support for hardware acceleration of video encoding on systems with Intel and AMD GPUs has been added when recording screens, reducing system load and improving responsiveness.
- The GTK library version has been updated to 4.16, utilizing the Wayland protocol with Vulkan API for enhanced rendering quality and performance on older equipment and mobile devices.
- Implemented support for session preservation during remote desktop connections, allowing users to resume interrupted sessions without losing progress.
- Introduced a new style of dialogs in the system and applications to enhance user experience across different devices and screen sizes, supporting alternative accent colors chosen by the user.
