Google has released a new version of the Chrome browser, version 129, for Windows, Mac, and Linux. The update, which will be rolled out to users gradually over the next few days, includes improvements and corrections aimed at enhancing the stability and security of the browser.
One of the key changes in this update is the fixing of nine security vulnerabilities, with one of the most critical vulnerabilities discovered in the V8 engine by a researcher known as “Popax21.” The researcher was rewarded $8000 for reporting this particular vulnerability, while other researchers who identified and reported vulnerabilities also received rewards ranging from $1000 to $2000.
In order to prevent vulnerabilities from making their way into stable versions, Google actively collaborates with researchers globally and utilizes internal checks as well as tools like AddressSanitizer and MemorySanitizer for analysis.
Google’s commitment to security also extends to internal initiatives aimed at identifying and addressing potential threats during the development stage of Chrome. Detailed information about the new features and major changes in version 129 will be shared on official posts on the Chrome and Chromium blog in the coming days.
