FDA Approves Neuralink Implant for Blind

Neuralink, a company co-founded by Elon Musk, has recently been granted the status of a “breakthrough device” by the FDA for its innovative project called Blindsight. This development aims to restore vision in individuals who have lost it. The company is now seeking volunteers who are interested in participating in the testing of the new Blindsight implant.

According to Musk, Blindsight has the potential to provide vision to individuals who have lost both eyes and visual nerve, provided that the visual cortex of the brain is intact. This device may also offer the possibility of sight to those who have been blind from birth.

Initially, the vision provided by Blindsight will be of low resolution, similar to the graphics of an ATARI gaming console. However, Musk envisions a future where the quality of vision surpasses natural capabilities, allowing users to distinguish between different types of waves such as infrared, ultraviolet, or radar.
