SteamFork Unveils Steamos for Non-Steam Deck Devices

The project Steamfork Linux distribution is currently in development, aiming to recreate the Steamos environment for regular computers and gaming consoles other than Steam Deck. Stemming from the Holoiso distribution, Steamfork differs in its goal to achieve maximum compatibility with Steamos, without adding third-party packages or altering Steamos’ functionality. The project focuses on enhancing support for additional hardware.

The distribution is being tested on various devices such as anbernic, antes, atari, ayaneo, Ayn, GPD, as well as on PCs and laptops with AMD GPUs. Updates for the distribution are released weekly, with the image size averaging around 5 GB. The assemblies are created using Steamos repositories and third-party Aur-Roositories.

The user interface of Steamfork mirrors Steamos and includes a desktop mode based on KDE. Additional optimizations have been made to improve energy consumption, enhance cooler control on supported devices, and disable default RGB illumination. Users can install additional programs in Flatpak format.

Various additional programs are available for installation, such as multimedia players, Spotify, VLC, Discord messenger, Firefox, Chrome browsers, Heroic interface for accessing GOG, EPIC, and Amazon catalogs, emulator organizing program Steam Ranger, file synchronization system syncthing, streaming configurator Setupstreamings, various gaming emulators, and Decky-plane.
