Linux From Scratch 12.2 and Beyond Released

Linux From Scratch News

New leaders of manuals for Linux From Scratch 12.2 (LFS) and Beyond Linux From Scratch 12.2 (BLFS) have been presented. Available in two versions, with the Sysvinit and Systemd initialization system, Linux From Scratch provides instructions for creating a base Linux system from source code. Beyond Linux From Scratch supplements LFS with information on assembly and setting up over 1000 software packages covering various application areas like DBMS, virtualization systems, developer tools, and graphic shells.

Linux From Scratch 12.2 has been updated with 45 packages and the addition of a new LZ4 package. Updates include GLIBC 2.40, Linux 6.10.5, Binutils-2.43.1, GCC-14.2.0, SystemD-256.4, and SYSVINIT-3.10, among others.

The leadership of Linux From Scratch 12.2-Sysv and Linux From Scratch 12.2-Systemd has been translated into Russian. To address occasional download issues with some packages, the source packages have been added to the repository along with WGET-List and MD5Sums.

Beyond LFS has seen over 1750 updates, with significant text changes for improved readability. Major updates include KDE5 to KDE6 (Frameworks, Gear, Plasma), GNOME to version 46, KDE Plasma to 6.1.4, and LXQT to version 2.0.0. New packages such as Freerdp, GNOME-Connces (replacing Vinagre), Dolphin, and Konversation have been added, with a total of 32 new packages supporting existing ones in the book. Additionally, 21 obsolete packages, including Python2 and GTK2, have been removed. Plans are underway to eliminate Qt5 in future BLFS versions.
