KDE Sets Development Goals for Next Two Years

The developers of the KDE community have started voting on the selection of goals that will receive increased focus in their development over the next two years. Out of 10 proposed options, three main goals will be chosen at the upcoming akademy 2024 conference, taking place on September 7-12. Previous objectives set in 2022 included improving accessibility for all user categories, developing eco-friendly applications, and streamlining internal processes.

The proposed goals up for voting are:

  • Expansion of control and automation tools, integrating KDE Plasma and applications with smart homes.
  • Improvement in organizing work processes, data flows, and management systems.
  • Formalization and enhancement of processes for recruiting new project contributors.
  • Implementation of Text Snippet Expansion functions for quick insertion of predefined text fragments and templates.
  • Provision of sandbox isolation for applications and platform components.
  • Modernization of KDE Plasma design, creation of new interface elements, and development of design guidelines.
  • Improvement and expansion of KDE functionality, simplification of the interface, and enhancement of user-friendly features.
  • Unification and modernization of application development tools.
  • Integration of a single KDE design across different distributions with the addition of a reset button for theme settings.
