After ten months of development presented the release of the composite server wayfire 0.9, using Wayland and allowing users to create user interfaces with 3D plugin-style interfaces similar to COMPIZ. This includes features such as switching screens through a 3D cube, spatial window layout, and morphing during window operations. Wayfire supports extensions through plugins and offers a flexible system for settings. The project is coded in C++ and is distributed under the MIT license.
The project was developed based on the wlroots library, created by the SWAY user environment developers for managing composite managers on Wayland. Session control can be done using systemd, elogind, or seatd. Wayfire also supports launching X11 applications using XWALAND. Panel options include using wf-shell developed by Wayfire, or a third-party option like lavalauncher. The project is also developing a configuration file library called wf-config and a graphic configurator known as WCM.
