In a recent update, the OSMC distribution 2024.08-1 was introduced for creating a media center utilizing single-board computers like Raspberry Pi or TV devices like Vero. This release includes the KODI media center and various tools to set up a home theater supporting video quality up to 4K, 2K, and HD (1080p). Users can download images for direct recording on a USB drive or SD card, or use specialized installers for Windows, MacOS, and Linux to easily install the distribution for Raspberry Pi and Vero 4K, 4K+, and V devices.
Based on the DEBIAN package base, the distribution allows users to install standard repositories without needing Linux knowledge. Setting up operations are done through a graphical interface. Users can connect the media center to a TV via HDMI and power it through the USB port, with hardware decoding supported by the Broadcom Videocore graphic accelerator during video playback.
OSMC also supports various TV tuners, DVB adaptors, and remote controls. Users can connect an infrared receiver via GPIO and manage KODI from a smartphone using specialized applications for iOS and Android. Additionally, the distribution supports AirPlay and Airtunes for streaming content from Apple devices.
Network connections can be wired or wireless, with services for accessing local content collection through protocols like SMB, NFS, FTP, HTTP, and SSH. The system is automatically updated to maintain its current state.
