Recent reports have revealed that Iran has been targeted by a series of large-scale cyber attacks that have impacted various branches of the country’s power structure, particularly focusing on its nuclear facilities. These attacks, which took place on October 12, resulted in significant damage to Iran’s law, legislative, and executive branches. Confidential information was stolen during the attacks, affecting not only government departments but also critical infrastructure such as nuclear energy facilities, fuel distribution systems, municipal networks, transport, and ports.
The cyber attacks on Iran come in the wake of heightened tensions in the Middle East, with Israel issuing warnings following a missile strike by Iran on October 1. Furthermore, the United States recently expanded sanctions on Iran’s oil and petrochemical sector in response to the missile attack on Israel. These sanctions are aimed at curbing Iran’s economic resources that could potentially support its nuclear and missile programs.
In a separate incident, it was reported that Israel successfully hacked the communication network of the Bayrut-Rafik Hariri International Airport in Beirut, Lebanon, preventing Iranian aircraft from landing and forcing them to return to Tehran. This move by Israel was seen as a response to Iran’s controversial flights to Lebanon, adding to the ongoing tensions in the region.
