Experimental Firefox Build Released for Haiku OS

A new version of the Firefox port for the Haiku operating system is available for testing. The port works relatively stable, allowing users to surf some sites. However, there are some individual problems with the assembly. For example, copying and pasting text through the exchange buffer does not work, some JavaScript scripts are slow, and pop-up windows do not display correctly upon first opening. These issues are related to problems on the Wayland-SERVER side. To address these issues, specific packages such as Wayland-server, GTK4, Webkitgtk, and a separate Mesa-Wayland package with EGL for Mesa’s latest version are required.

Furthermore, the RAM requirements for launching a 64-bit version of the WebPositive browser in QEMU have been reduced to 128MB, and to 100MB for the 32-bit version. Work has also resumed on using 2D graphics library skia, which will help correct issues with the App_Server. The SKIA engine has several advantages, including support for rendering via GPU without needing integration with video detectors. SKIA can also process modern vector graphics and draw text for languages that are written from right to left, such as Arabic.
