Foxconn, the world’s largest contracted manufacturer, has begun construction on a factory in Mexico that will be the largest production facility for assembling the NVIDIA GB200 superchips- the key component of the new Blackwell computing platform from NVIDIA. These superchips play a crucial role in processing tasks related to artificial intelligence. Benjamin Ting, the senior vice president of Foxconn, highlighted the extremely high demand for this platform and stated that the new plant will be the largest GB200 facility in the world, marking a significant milestone in the cooperation between Foxconn and Nvidia.
In August, NVIDIA started supplying Blackwell test samples to its partners and clients, with expectations of generating multi-billion dollar revenue in the fourth quarter. FOXCONN Chairman Jan Liu mentioned that the Mexico plant will have significant production capacities, although specific details were not disclosed.
Previously, Foxconn invested over $500 million in Chihuahua to strengthen its presence in the region. The company is also incorporating advanced technologies, such as liquid cooling systems essential for the operation of the GB200 servers, into its production chain. Foxconn views this as a promising move amid the global AI revolution.
Furthermore, Foxconn is actively diversifying its activities, including venturing into electric vehicles. Liu affirmed the company’s dedication to this sector, despite competition and a decrease in global electric car demand. He believes that entering this market has become more feasible due to new technologies, eliminating the need for automakers to produce cars entirely on their own.
