Robots Destroy World: Future Explored in Electric State

Netflix has unveiled the first images from its upcoming Sci-Fi film “ The Electric State “, which has sparked mixed reactions among viewers. The film, helmed by the Russo brothers known for their work on Marvel movies, is set to be one of the streaming platform’s next big-budget projects, starring Millie Bobby Brown from “Stranger Things” and Chris Pratt from “Guardians of the Galaxy”.

Based on the graphic novel by Simon Stålenhag, the story is set in an alternate version of 1997 where a technological disaster has drastically altered the world. The protagonist, teenager Michelle, embarks on a journey through the American southwest with a robot in search of her younger brother. While the original story explores how people deal with the aftermath of a high-tech apocalypse, Netflix’s adaptation focuses on themes of artificial intelligence and human nature.

The plot centers around Michelle in a world where once-friendly robots, now banished following a failed uprising, are encountered by her in the form of Cosmo, a mysterious robot controlled by her supposedly deceased brother. Michelle teams up with space smuggler Kits (played by Chris Pratt) and his sardonic robot sidekick for a quest filled with perilous encounters in a region inhabited solely by robots, where surprising allies and adversaries await.

The movie boasts an impressive cast including Ki Hong Lee, Giancarlo Esposito, Stanley Tucci, as well as stars like Woody Harrelson and Bryan Cranston. Despite the stellar lineup, public opinion on the project is divided. Reactions to the released footage range from admiration for the film’s visual style to skepticism regarding its blend of sci-fi and comedic elements.

The release date for “The Electric State” is slated for 2025, but discussions are already underway about the film’s budget, stylistic choices, and the involvement of the Russo brothers, sparking debates online. Only time and initial audience reviews will determine whether “The Electric State” will succeed or disappoint.
