Developers of the Arch Linux distribution have announced their transition to direct collaboration with Valve, the company behind the Steamos operating system based on Arch Linux. Valve will provide support in the form of assembly infrastructure and maintain a secure environment for certifying the components of the distribution using digital signatures. In addition, Valve will offer additional resources to help develop specific areas, beyond the contributions of volunteer developers.
This partnership is expected to expedite the resolution of significant issues within the distribution and facilitate the swift implementation of future plans. Projects developed in collaboration with Valve will adhere to the standard processes established within the Arch Linux community, including decision-making models based on achieving consensus. Any major changes proposed by Valve will be subject to the creation of RFCs (Request for Comments), public discussions on the mailing list, and initiation of Gitlab issues to ensure transparency and community oversight.
