Microsoft Corporation announced yesterday, September 24, their plan to invest $1.3 billion over the next three years to expand their infrastructure in Mexico, with a focus on cloud computing and artificial intelligence. This move aims to increase the company’s presence in the country and accelerate the adoption of modern technologies, as stated by Microsoft CEO Satya Valel.
Part of the investment will be directed towards improving Internet access and supporting small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) in implementing AI technology. Microsoft estimates that this initiative will benefit around 5 million Mexicans and 30,000 SMEs over a three-year period.
Several major Mexican companies, including Bimbo bakery and Cemex cement company, are already utilizing Microsoft’s artificial intelligence tools. Additionally, a key aspect of the program involves a collaboration with telecommunications company Viasat to provide Internet access to over 150,000 Mexicans without cell connectivity by the end of 2025.
Marcelo Ebrard, the future Minister of Economy Mexico, praised this initiative as a significant advancement for the country. He believes that the planned investments will facilitate the development of AI technology in Mexico.
