Wednesday Unveils Cinnamon 6.4

After 6 months of development resulted in the release of the desktop Cinnamon 6.4, in which the Linux Mint distribution development community works on the Gnome Shell, the Nautilus file manager, and the window manager. The goal is to provide an environment reminiscent of the classic GNOME 2. Cinnamon has support for successful elements of interaction from Gnome Shell. It is based on GNOME components, but these components are supplied as periodically synchronized modules, not connected by external dependencies with GNOME. The new release of Cinnamon will be included in the Linux Mint 22.1 distribution, scheduled for release in the second half of December.

The main innovations:

  • Introduced a new design theme featuring darker colors, increased contrast, rounded interface elements, and larger spacing between applets and panels.
  • The design of the calendar applet has been updated.

  • Dialog designs have been refreshed, with the addition of colored buttons for dialogues.

  • The Clutter library is now used for drawing key pop-up dialogs.
