90 Million In 365 Days: As False Defenders Turned Life Of An Elderly Muscovite Into Nightmare

In Moscow, an 86-year-old woman became a victim of a telephone scam, which lasted from November 2023 to November 2024. Fraudsters stole almost 90 million rubles from her, reports Moscow prosecutor’s office.

The first call came in November 2023, when an unknown person introduced himself as an investigator. The swindler told the woman that scammers “took up” her and all her savings could be stolen. He urgently recommended urgently withdrawing money and transfer it to “safe” accounts.

During the year, the pensioner regularly contacted various telephone scammers who were presented either by banking employees or law enforcement officers. The woman withdrew from her accounts the amount of 300 thousand to 23 million rubles and transferred them to the couriers.

In the end, she lost all savings, as well as cash from the sale of shares of the bank and an apartment on the enthusiasts highway.

realizing that she became a victim of deception, the pensioner turned to law enforcement agencies. The establishment of all circumstances is under the control of the prosecutor’s office.
