Project ubports has released the Ubuntu Touch OTA-7 Focal update after taking over the development of the Ubuntu Touch mobile platform from Canonical. This update, the seventh in the series, is based on the Ubuntu 04.04 package base. In addition to this, the project is also working on the experimental port of the desktop unity 8, now renamed Lomiri. The Ubuntu Touch OTA-7 Focal update will soon be available for devices including Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1, F (X) Tec Pro1 X, Fairphone 3/3+/4, Google Pixel 3a/3a XL, JingPad A1, OnePlus 5/5t/6T, OnePlus N10 5G/N100, SONY XPERIA X, Vollaphone X/22/X23, and Xiaomi Poco X3 NFC/X3.
The release of Ubuntu Touch OTA-7 Focal was unexpected and includes only bug fixes and the elimination of a vulnerability affecting the sound server Pulseaudio. This vulnerability allowed isolated applications to bypass restrictions, access the microphone, and secretly record audio without user consent. Another issue addressed in this update is the ability to force Pulseaudio to stop by adjusting the virtual device volume when Bluetooth headphones are connected. Both issues were a result of errors in Pulseaudio patches specific to Ubuntu Touch.
Furthermore, the update includes fixes to LIBGBinder and enhancements to the Lomiri-System-Settings configurator, which now provides a printing adjustment panel when a CUPS server is active. Additionally, issues related to reconnecting external monitors have been resolved.
