Published a test release of desktop-rejection Xfce 4.20 Pre2, aimed at providing a classic desktop environment that requires minimal system resources for its operation. Release is expected on December 29, if there is a decision to publish another test release Xfce 4.20 Pre3, or December 15, if developers will consider the code base quite stable.
The Xfce 4.20 branch is notable for the addition of experimental support for the work using the Wayland protocol. To abstract the work on top of Wayland and X11, the new library involved is Libxfce4windowing, offering a layer that does not depend on the graphic system in which windows control components (screens, root windows, virtual desktops, etc.) are implemented. Instead of Libmutter, the Wayland session is involved in the Wlroots library, developed by the Sway project.
At the same time, announced the winners of the competition for the creation of new desktop wallpaper, the work of which will be part of the Xfce 4.20 release. 18 users who provided 54 works took part in the competition. As a result of the community vote, the following winners were selected:
- First place (wallpaper will be used by default in Xfce 4.20):
- The second place was awarded to two works:
