OpenMandriva Project Releases New Version of OpenMandriva rome 24.12
The OpenMandriva project has published the release of OpenMandriva rome 24.12. The editors of the OpenMandriva distribution are using the continuous delivery of updates, known as Rolling-missiles. This edition allows users to access new versions of packages developed for the OpenMandriva LX 6 branch without waiting for the formation of a classic distribution. The ISO images with KDE5, KDE6, desktop Wayland, X11, Gnome Cosmic, and LXQT are available for download in live mode from here.
Features of the release include:
- Began the formation of assemblies with alpha versions of the Cosmic desktop, written in Rust.
- Updated KDE components to KDE Plasma 6.2.4, KDE GEARS 08.24.3, KDE Frameworks 6.8.0, and QT 6.8.0. There is an ISO image with KDE Plasma 6 based on Wayland, along with assemblies and packages with KDE Plasma 5.27 and QT 5.15.
- Added separate PROTON and PrOTON-Experimental packages to the OpenMandriva repository for launching games without the Steam package dependency.
- Improved the first entrance application to the OM-WelCome system, adding additional modules to simplify the installation of popular programs.
- Updated system components, including Linux 6.12.1, LLVM/Clang 19.1.4, GCC 14.2.0, Glibc 2.40, Systemd 256.9, and Mesa 24.3.0. User applications like LibreOffice, Chromium, Firefox, Falkon, GIMP, and VirtualBox have also been updated.
