Far2L File Manager GUI Added to Debian Testing

In the Debian Testing repository, a new package called Far2l-wx has been added. This package includes a graphical version of the port manager’s port far 2 for Linux, using the wxgtk. This package is expected to appear in Ubuntu version 25.04 as well. You can find more information about the Far2l-wx package here and about the original far 2 for Linux here.

Traditional Unix terminals often lack the necessary functionality for Windows console applications, such as access to the exchange buffer and support for complex key combinations. The graphic version of FAR2L, known as PAR2L-WX, addresses these limitations. While Far2l itself remains a text application, the window drawing and input are processed by the WXWIDGETS TOOLKIT, enabling the implementation of various Windows Console capabilities in a text interface.

In addition, FAR2L includes a built-in terminal. With the introduction of the Far2l-WX package, additional terminals are no longer required for its normal operation. Instead, Far2l can now function as an advanced terminal, supporting all the features necessary for console far-u. Users no longer need to select a specific terminal for comfortable work in Far Manager for Linux or worry about additional settings. Everything works out of the box, although enabling the “Exclusive keyboard processing” option in Far2l settings may be necessary in some cases.
