Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Trust in Great Britain has been hit by a serious cyberattack, disrupting the operations of all of its medical institutions.
On the evening of November 25, Arrowe Park Hospital’s administration declared an emergency mode in response to the attack. All electronic systems at the medical center, including patient databases and examinations, were rendered unavailable, forcing staff to resort to manual documentation.
By the morning of November 26, it was discovered that the cyberattack affected all medical facilities under the Trust – Arrowe Park Hospital, Clatterbridge Hospital, and Wirral Women and Children’s Hospital. Patients with scheduled appointments were turned away, and the X-ray departments and operating rooms were non-operational. Management is considering the option of redirecting patients to hospitals in Liverpool.
On the evening of November 26, the medical center issued an updated statement, announcing the cancellation of all outpatient appointments on Tuesday and Wednesday. However, certain departments continue to operate normally, including maternity, antenatal consultations, obstetric scans, ultrasound diagnostics, postnatal care, and round-the-clock emergency services.
Efforts are ongoing to resolve the aftermath of the cyberattack. The medical center’s administration has assured that patients affected by the cancellations will be notified of new appointment dates. Only emergency patients are being accepted at the emergency care departments.
