Applications within Elementary OS 8.x are packaged using the Flatpak format and can be installed via the Appsenter. The graphic environment features the Pantheon shell, which includes components such as Gala window manager, Wingpanel top panel, Slingshot launcher, and Switchboard control panel.
Key innovations in Elementary OS 8 include the introduction of two session options upon login – Classic and Secure. The new Secure session enables the Wayland Protocol by default and activates a permission request system for applications in Flatpak format.
