Startwine-Launcher 407: Launch Windows Apps on Linux

Startwine-launcher has recently published the application of the Startwine-launcher 406, designed for launching programs and games collected for the Windows platform on Linux systems. The main aim behind developing Startwine-launcher was to simplify the process of creating Wine for newcomers to the WINE libraries and dependencies needed for Windows applications in Linux. The code for Startwine-launcher is written in Python and is distributed under the GPLV3 license. The interface is implemented on the basis of the GTK library.

Startwine-launcher can be installed in any location in the file system without impacting the system files. Applications are launched in a container based on runimage, which eliminates the need to install dependencies in the system and isolates the launched application from the main system. Management and configuration are performed through a graphic interface.

In the new version of Startwine-launcher, several updates and enhancements have been introduced:

  • Added functions for backup and restore of application and game states.
  • Added audio and video player.
  • Support for adding media files to the playlist.
  • Graphics interface rendering using the graphic API VULKAN.
  • Added new animations for the background.
  • Added the choice of buttons to control the header window.
  • Added color choice for built-in themes of icons.
  • Implemented the ability to use a gamepad to control the graphic interface.
  • Added a map for linking controller buttons to keyboards or other input devices.
  • Updated language settings, prefixes, list of Wine versions, list of versions of DXVK and VKD3D, libraries and drivers in a container, hot keys list, registry corrections.
  • Fixed errors and improved performance.
