Hackers Snatch Jackpot: IgT Developer Held Hostage

The largest gambling company has reported a major cyberattack leading to large-scale malfunctions in its operations. As a result, parts of the systems had to be shut down to protect the infrastructure.

International Game Technology (IGT), a leading corporation in the gambling industry, informed the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) about the incident on November 24th. The company discovered disruptions in its internal IT systems and applications.

To prevent further damage, specific systems were disconnected, and an investigation and restoration process is currently underway. IGT is working diligently to restore operations and minimize the impact of the cyberattack. While the company has not yet determined if the incident will affect its financial performance, temporary measures have been implemented to ensure continued customer service.

Although no hacker group has claimed responsibility for the attack at the time of this report, cybercriminals have increasingly targeted casinos and lotteries with ransomware programs over the past year. Recent attacks on companies like MGM Resorts and Caesars Entertainment highlight the vulnerability of the industry. Caesars Entertainment reportedly paid $15 million to restore operations within days, while MGM Resorts faced disruptions for over a week. This trend suggests a growing interest among attackers in targeting organizations within the gambling sector.
