The Managing Technical Committee of the Linux Foundation Organization, also known as the Technical Advisory Board, recently made an announcement regarding the participation of Kent Overton, the author of bsachefs, in the development of the Linux kernel. It was revealed that Kent would be limited in his involvement in the creation of the 6.13 release due to a prohibition on receiving PULL Carries during this process.
This decision was based on a recommendation from the committee responsible for upholding the community’s behavior standards, known as the Code of Conduct Committee. Kent’s removal was confirmed to be a result of insulting behavior towards Mikhala, with the condition that he could potentially rejoin technical discussions without engaging in personal attacks.
In response to his removal, Kent Overton released a copy of a personal letter he had sent to Mikhala in September, just two days after the offensive messages were exchanged. The letter contained an apology from Kent to Mikhala, along with an explanation of his internal struggles that led to the inappropriate behavior, citing a desire to ensure the functionality of the project and a strong emotional response to unresolved issues.
