KB5046740: Update Transforms Windows Interaction

Microsoft has released a preliminary update KB5046740 for Windows 11 24H2, which includes 14 improvements and corrections. The update addresses issues with the taskbar, clipboard, and additional displays, while also enhancing the functionality of voice features and text input.

KB5046740 is part of the optional monthly preliminary updates, typically released in the fourth week of the month. These updates allow administrators to test the fixes before the official release on Patch Tuesday of the following month.

One of the new features introduced in this update is the ability to send content to an Android device directly from the desktop and taskbar context menus, requiring the installation of the Phone Link application on the smartphone.

Furthermore, the update resolves problems such as delays and disruptions on additional screens in full-screen mode, issues with missing content in the clipboard history, and window displacement after waking the device from sleep mode.

Other errors addressed include the display of small circles when searching for the mouse pointer using the Ctrl key and incorrect notification icon display in “do not disturb” mode.

KB5046740 also improves text and voice accessibility in Windows, enhancing features like dictation, voice input, live captions, and translations. Additionally, the update adds support for launching items with administrative privileges using the SHIFT and CTRL keys.

Microsoft has announced that there will be no preliminary updates in December 2024 due to the holiday season, but a monthly security update will still be released as scheduled. Regular update releases will resume in January 2025.

Currently, only two known issues are associated with KB5046740. Windows users on ARM-based devices may encounter problems loading and playing Roblox from the Microsoft Store, while a bug causing a sudden volume increase on some USB DACs has also been confirmed.

Users can install KB5046740 automatically through Windows Update or manually by downloading the update from the official Microsoft website.
