Cybercriminals have seized over 70,000 domains, out of a total of 800,000 vulnerable to a simple attack known as “Sitting Ducks” in the past six months. Infoblox and Eclypsium experts had issued a warning about this vulnerability in the middle of summer, advising site owners to address the issue promptly. However, a significant number of site owners ignored this warning.
The attack exploits errors in the configuration of DNS (Domain Name System), a system that allows users to use easily memorable domain names rather than complex numerical IP addresses when searching for resources on the Internet.
