Issue GhostBSD 24.10.1

The latest release of the desktop-oriented distribution GhostBSD 24.10.1 has been announced, based on FreeBSD 14-Stable and featuring the Mate user environment. Unofficial assemblies with XFCE are also available. GhostBSD utilizes the ZFS file system by default and supports both Live mode and installation on a hard drive through Ginstall, its own Python-based installer. Images for x86_64 architecture are available for download.

Notable updates in this version include:

  • Synchronization with the FreeBSD 14-Stable branch.
  • The CHROMIUM browser is configured to allow viewing protected content on platforms like Netflix.
  • The UFS file system has been removed as an installation option, leaving only ZFS.
  • Introduction of the utouch-kmod package for mouse driver emulation in virtualization systems like Virtualbox and Bhyve.
  • Inclusion of the HGAME driver to support game controllers.
  • Ability to mark packages essential for distribution functioning, preventing accidental removal of system packages.
  • Added support for AMD FirePro, AMD Radeon R5, and R6 GPUs.
