Arch Linux has released version 3.0 of Archinstall, which has been included as an option in the ARCH Linux installation ISO images since April 2021. Archinstall, written in Python and distributed under the GPL license, allows users to install Arch Linux in console mode instead of the default manual mode.
Archinstall offers guided and automated modes of operation. In automated mode, users can use scripts for deploying typical configurations. The installer also supports installation profiles such as “Desktop” for selecting desktop environments like KDE, GNOME, or AWESOME, and installing necessary packages, as well as profiles for “WebServer” and “Database” for setting up web servers and DBMS.
While an attempt was made four years ago to create a version of Archinstall with a graphic installation interface, it did not receive further development. The new version of Archinstall has completely revamped the console interface using the curses library, improving appearance, usability, and layout of interface elements, with a separate area displaying a menu at all times. The update also focuses on code quality improvements and expanding testing coverage.
