Chrome 131 Web Browser Released

Google published the release of Web-browser Chrome 131. At the same time a stable release of the free project Chromium acting as the basis of Chrome is available. Chrome browser differs from Chromium by using the legotpes OGLE, a system sending notifications in case of a collapse, modules for playing DRM-protected video content, an automatic update installation system, constant inclusion of Sandbox insulation, provision of the Google API key, and transmission of RLZ parameters during searches. For those needing more time to update, the Extended Stable branch is supported for 8 weeks. The next issue of Chrome 132 is scheduled for January 14.

The main changes in 131:

  • In the built-in PDF viewer, the capability to recognize text in scanned PDFs where text is in image form is expanded. The text is recognized locally using the built-in OCR engine based on machine learning. Scanned documents are now automatically converted into text, enabling selection, search, and copying to the clipboard.
  • The option to enable advanced checks in the memory allocation system partition_locator is now available. These checks help block vulnerabilities arising from accessing already freed memory areas (USE-AFTER-FREE). By default, these checks are disabled for performance reasons, but separate Enterprise policies can activate additional protection for implementations
