LineageOS 22 Launches, Built on Android 15

The release of the mobile platform LineageOS 22.1 based on the Android code base 15 has been announced. It is reported that the LineageOS 22 branch has reached parity in terms of functionality and stability with the 21 branch, indicating that it is ready for the first release. Assemblies are prepared for 132 models of devices, which is 23 more than LineageOS 21 supported. LineageOS can also be run in the Android Emulator and Android Studio environment. Additionally, it is possible to assemble Android TV and Android Automotive.

Aside from the release of LineageOS 22, support continues for the LineageOS 21 branch, with additional assemblies being formed for 57 devices. Updates have also been made to the LineageOS 19.1 and 20.0 branches to address vulnerability fixes. For installation on all supported devices, Lineage Recovery is offered by default, eliminating the need for a separate recovery partition. LineageOS 18 branch updates continue with old Linux kernels (up to 4.9) being discontinued.

LineageOS releases are synchronized with the quarterly updates of Android. The first release of the LineageOS 22 branch is numbered 22.1, corresponding to the first quarterly update of Android 15 QPR1 (Quarterly Platform Release). This numbering change aims to prevent confusion caused by Google’s practice of no longer supporting some older devices in intermediate Android updates.

Compared to LineageOS 21, LineageOS 22 brings improvements specific to Android 15 and introduces the new Twelve music app for default music listening and management. Twelve features a modern interface in the style of “Material You,” support for various network musical libraries, streaming protocols, enhanced search system, and the ability to resume playback from the last position after a device reboot, among other features.
