Phosh, a screen shell for mobile devices based on GNOME technology and the GTK library, has just released version 0.44. Originally developed by Purism as an alternative to Gnome Shell for the Librem 5 smartphone, Phosh has become one of the unofficial GNOME projects and is now utilized in Postmarketos, Mobian, Droidian, some firmware for Pine64 devices, and Fedora editors for smartphones. Phosh utilizes the composite server phoc, which runs on top of Wayland, along with its own screen keyboard. The project’s components are distributed under the GPLv3+ license.
In the latest release of Phosh 0.44:
- Enhancements include the ability to install a background image in the interface with a review of neglected applications, as well as the option to switch full-screen applications to a normal mode with a heading.
- Support has been added for processing and displaying broadcast messages from the cellular operator, although installation of the ModemManger/Libmm-Glib code base is required for this feature to work.
- An animated effect for hiding a notification block has been incorporated.
- Configuration settings for screen locks have been added in PHOSH-MOBILE-SETTINGS. The configurator plugins have now been translated for use with AdWPreferencesDialog dialogs optimized for mobile devices.
- Dependencies have been updated to include Wlroots 0.17.4, Gnome 47, Calls 47.0, Feedbackd 0.6.0, FeedBackd-Device-Themes 0.4.0, Callaudiod 0.1.10, Wys 0.1.12, and MMSD-TNG 2.6.2.
