Microsoft Forces Outlook Update on Windows 10 PCs

Microsoft announced that starting February 2025, the new Outlook email client will be automatically installed on devices running Windows 10. This change is linked to the release of safety updates scheduled for February 11.

Users who opt to install an optional update from January 28 will also receive the new Outlook application. The new version will be installed alongside the classic Outlook, without altering any configurations or user settings.

The company mentioned that currently, it is not possible to prevent the installation of the new Outlook client on Windows 10 devices. However, users who do not wish to use it can remove it post-installation using a PowerShell command.

To uninstall the new Outlook, it is recommended to use the following PowerShell command: Remove-AppsProvisionedpackage -allus -oline -packageename (Get-Appspackage ame

It is also advised to add a registry setting to prevent re-installation through Windows updates: Reg Value: Hkey_Local_machine Software Microsoft Windowsupdate UschedUleer_Oobe Outlookupdate

The new Outlook client was initially introduced in May 2022 for previewing purposes. It became available for personal accounts in September 2023 and for corporate users in August 2024.

Currently, the new client can be found in the Start menu’s applications section and can coexist with the classic Outlook version. Users have the flexibility to switch between the two based on their preference.

These changes will impact all Microsoft 365 users who utilize applications on Windows 10. The new Outlook aims to enhance user convenience and unify the interface across Microsoft platforms.
