ScummVM 2.9.0: Free Classic Quest Emulator Released

After a year of development, ScumVM has announced the release of a free cross-platform interpreter of classic quests, ScumVM 2.9.0. This release replaces executable files for games, allowing users to run many classic games on platforms for which they were not originally intended. The project code is distributed under the license GPLv3+.

The latest version provides the ability to launch over 340 quests, including popular games from Lucasarts, Humongous Entertainment, Revolution Software, Cyan, and Sierra. Games such as Maniac Mansion, Monkey Island, Broken Sword, Myst, Blade Runner, King’s Quest, Space Quest, Discworld, and more are supported on platforms like Linux, Windows, MacOS, iOS, Android, PS Vita, Switch, Dreamcast, and others.

In the new version of ScumVM 2.9.0, the following updates have been implemented:

  • Added support for 15 games, including titles like Backyard Basketball, Castle Master, Rise of the Dragon, and Thimbleweed Park.
  • Added support for the Sailfish platform.
  • Updated the AGS engine to version 3.6.1.30, adding support for games like Stranger in Utopia and it Takes Two to Tango.
  • Improved key remapping for over 20 engines, including mouse buttons and joysticks.
  • Enhanced support for graphics and sound in games collected for the Macintosh in the SCUMM engine.
  • Added support for Android 15 and improved gamepad compatibility for the Android platform.
  • Introduced support for the Apple Pencil digital pen in the iOS platform.
