Angie 1.8.0 Released: Nginx Fork Update

Angie Software recently announced the release of a high-performance HTTP server and multi-purpose proxy server, Angie 1.8.0. This new software is a branch from the well-known Nginx, developed by a group of former Nginx project developers who parted ways with F5 Network. The initial source code of Angie is available under the BSD license. The project has obtained compatibility certifications with Russian operating systems such as Red OS, Astra Linux Special Edition, DEW that Chrome Server, Alt, and the FSTEK version of Alt.

The development of Angie began in the fall of 2022 and received a $1 million investment for its development. Notable co-owners of the company include Valentin Bartenev (leader of the Nginx Unit team), Ivan Poluyanov (former head of front-end developers at Rambler and Mail.ru), Oleg Mamontov (head of NGINX Inc technical support team), and [email protected].

The latest changes in Angie 1.8.0 include:

  • The HTTP_ACME module now supports the dns-01 verification method for obtaining certificates covering groups of subdomains. A new directive, acme_hook, has been added to allow for the integration of external services and DNS providers during the domain ownership confirmation process. Additional information has also been included in the log for easier diagnosis.
  • The acme_client directive now includes a parameter called Account_key for reusing existing access keys to the ACME server instead of generating new keys automatically.
  • Variables can now be indicated in the status_zone directive used in the stream and HTTP modules, allowing for dynamic accounting of statistics in reference to individual virtual hosts within a block.
  • The GZIP compression module now provides compatibility with the Zlib-NG 2.2 library and newer versions. Additionally, the implementation of the max_headers directive from the FreeNGINX project has been added.
