---|
An 83-year-old Muscovite has fallen victim to scammers, losing more than 165 million rubles after receiving a telephone call from an attacker who claimed to be an FSB officer. The pensioner was informed about a criminal case supposedly opened against her. The fraudster convinced the elderly woman that money had been transferred to illegal sources from her bank accounts. To avoid prosecution, the scammer suggested cooperating with the investigation. Over the course of a few days, the pensioner withdrew large sums of money from her accounts and transferred the funds through couriers to individuals claiming to be from the FSB and Central Bank. While at her dacha near Moscow following a meeting with one of the couriers, the elderly Muscovite realized she had been duped. By that time, the scammers had made off with over 165 million rubles in total. |
