The distribution known as Fedora Asahi Remix 41 has been released, specifically designed for installation on Mac computers with ARM chips developed by Apple. This version is based on the Fedora Linux 41 package base and comes with the Calamares installer. Originally developed as Asahi Linux based on Arch Linux, the project transitioned to the Fedora package base in 2023, allowing for a focus on reverse engineering and hardware support. The distribution is now ready for installation by the working group Fedora Asahi SIG.
Fedora Asahi Remix offers support for various Mac devices equipped with ARM Apple M1 and M2 chips, such as MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, Mac Mini, Mac Studio, and iMac. Supported features include the sound system, camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, input devices, USB Type C (USB 3.0), and wireless charging through MagSafe. However, functionalities like screen connection via USB-C, Thunderbolt/USB4, microphone, and Touch ID are not yet supported.
The main user environment in Fedora Asahi Remix is KDE Plasma 6.2, with the option of GNOME 47 available. Both editions use Wayland, while X11-Applications are utilized to launch the XWALAND DDX server. Graphic drivers in this distribution support Opengl 4.6, Opengl ES 3.2, and Vulkan 1.4 (whereas native graphic drivers for the M1 from Apple only implement the Opengl 4.1 specification). Additionally, an emulator is integrated to launch applications compiled for X86_64.
