GCompris has recently released version 25.0, a free educational tool designed for children in preschool and primary school. This software includes 195 mini-tutorials and modules covering topics such as graphic editing, puzzles, keyboard simulation, mathematics, geography, and reading. Developed by the KDE community, GCompris uses the QT library and is available for various platforms including Linux, macOS, Windows, Raspberry Pi, and Android.
The latest release of GCompris comes with several key changes. The version numbering now reflects the year of release, with the project aiming to deliver one major version per year. Additionally, the software has transitioned to the Qt6 library and has added five new lessons, bringing the total number of lessons to 195. These new lessons include “sketch” for drawing, “Calculation with an addition to ten” for basic math practice, and “Addition in a column”, “Subtraction in a column”, and “Subtraction in a column with compensation” for advanced math exercises.
Other improvements in this release include the ability to change languages without restarting the program, enhanced graphics in existing lessons, clearer descriptions for lessons, and default usage of Direct3D 11 for graphics on the Windows platform. Furthermore, a full translation into Ukrainian has been provided, with partial translations available in Russian (92%), Lithuanian (92%), Azerbaijani (90%), Estonian (88%), and Belarusian (86%).
