The developers of the Python-packages on Pypi (Python Package Index) have recently announced a new feature that allows projects to be assigned Archival status. This means that projects in the archive will no longer have updates published. Users will see a warning when accessing the project page that no new releases are planned. This indicates to users that the package may have vulnerabilities that will not be fixed and errors that are not corrected.
Archival projects are still available for download and installation. However, project owners have the option to remove the archival status and resume publishing new versions. In the future, additional statuses such as “outdated” and “abandoned” are expected to be supported.
