The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs has called on parents to untie bank cards from accounts on the Roblox platform in order to protect children from scammers. According to the department, attackers have been using various schemes to gain access to accounts and money of users.
One common tactic used by criminals is offering children free Robux, but requesting the login and password for the Roblox account in return. Once the fraudster obtains these details, they change the password and gain full access to the profile, including any attached payment funds, the Ministry of Internal Affairs explained.
In addition, fraudsters frequently entice users with offers to buy Robux at a discounted price outside of the official store. However, in order to make the purchase, they require data from a bank card or request payment from parents. After receiving the money, the attackers either disappear or continue to access the card for further debits, the department reported.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs highlighted that scammers are actively seeking out victims in forums, game chats, Discord, social networks, and even through direct messages within the game itself. To safeguard accounts, the department recommends avoiding linking payment funds to game profiles, limiting children’s access to bank cards, and educating them on the importance of cybersecurity.
