The Akamai Security Intelligence Response Team recently discovered the third version of the Aquabot botnet, based on the code found by Akamai Sirt in January 2025 here. This new variant of Aquabot is believed to be exploiting Mitel phones.
The Mirai botnet, which was first identified in August 2016, has been responsible for some of the most powerful and destructive Distributed Denial of Service (DDOS) attacks since its discovery.
