Nasdaq Hack: Stonk Token-Clone Dupes Investors

The official NASDAQ account in X* (formerly Twitter) was recently targeted in a hacker attack, leading to the promotion of the STONNKS fake memocurrency. A post was made on behalf of Nasdaq, purportedly a retweet from an affiliated account promoting this token.

STONNKS turned out to be a copy of an existing token on the SOLANA blockchain. Following the post, the token experienced a rapid rise in price, with its market capitalization reaching $80 million. However, this growth was short-lived, as the price of the token soon plummeted.

Swift action was taken to remove the scammer’s post and block the fake account. Nasdaq Inc. (Nasdaq: ndaq) has yet to issue a statement regarding the incident.

* It is worth noting that the social network X is prohibited in the Russian Federation.
