Olivier Kochar-labbe (olivier cochard-labbé), the creator of the distribution Freenas, presented the release of a specialized distribution bsd router project 1.994 (bsdrp), notable for updating the code base to the development of the FreeBSD 15 branch. The distribution is designed to create compact software routers supporting routing protocols such as RIP, OSPF, BGP, and PIM. Management is performed through a command-line interface resembling the Cisco IOS interface. The distribution is available in the assembly for the x86_64 architecture, with the installation image size of 190 MB.
The main characteristics of the distribution:
- The kit includes two packages with the implementation of routing protocols: Frrouting (Fork Quagga) with support for BGP, RIP, RIPNG (IPv6), OSPF V2, OSPF V3 (IPv6), ISIS and bird with support for BGP, RIP, RIPNG (IPv6), OSPF V2 and OSPF V3 (IPv6).
- The distribution is adapted for the parallel use of several separate routing tables (FIB), tied to real and virtual interfaces.
- SNMP (BSNMP-USD) can be used for monitoring and control.
- Supporting export of traffic data in the form of Netflow flows.
- Various utilities like utpipe, Ipeerf, NetBlast, Netray, Netreceive, and ng_netflow are included for assessing network performance and accumulating traffic statistics.
- Support for fault-tolerant routers of two servers using VRRP and Carp protocols, implemented using the UCARP package.
- Support for tunneling protocols like PPTP, PPPOE, L2TP using mpd.
- Support for traffic throughput restrictions using
