Debian Developers Announce Plan for Debian 13 “Trixie” Release |
---|
Debian developers recently published the plan for the package base of the upcoming release of Debian 13 “Trixie”. The release of Debian 13 is scheduled for the second half of 2025. On March 15, 2025, the first stage of freezing the package base will begin. This stage will involve halting the execution of “Transitions” (packet updating that requires adjustments to dependencies from other packages, leading to temporary removal of packages from Testing) and stopping updates to the packages necessary for assembly (BUILD-ESSENTIAL). Following this, on April 15, 2025, a soft freezing of the package base will take place. During this stage, the acceptance of new starting packages will be stopped, and the re-inclusion of previously removed packages will be closed. Finally, on May 15, 2025, a rigid freezing will be implemented before the release. This phase will halt the process of transferring key packages and packages without Autopkgtestists from the UNSTABLE branch to Testing. It will also kick off an intensive testing and correction period for any blocking issues. After the hard freeze, a complete freeze will occur, covering all packages. The specific date for the complete freeze has not yet been determined. |
