Windows Updates Return for Assassin’s Creed Fans

Ubisoft has released updates for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Assassin’s Creed Origins to address compatibility issues with Windows 11 24H2. These problems were previously causing game failures, freezing, and audio malfunctions.

In late November, Microsoft had put a hold on updates to Windows 11 24H2 for computers with Assassin’s Creed, Star Wars Outlaws, and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora installed. Users took to Reddit, Microsoft Answers forums, and the Feedback Hub to report issues such as black screens, game crashes, and sudden exits during gameplay.

After recognizing the complaints, Microsoft lifted the update restriction for Star Wars Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora once temporary fixes were provided by Ubisoft. However, performance problems may still persist for users.

This week, Ubisoft has finally released updates for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Origins, resolving the major compatibility issues. Microsoft also lifted the update restriction for these games. According to information on the Windows website, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Origins, and Valhalla are now functioning properly on Windows 11 versions 24H2. The update restriction (ID 54437462) was removed on January 16, 2025.

Users may experience a delay of up to 48 hours in receiving the update, but rebooting the system can speed up the process. Furthermore, Microsoft has initiated a mandatory transition to Windows 11 24H2 for compatible systems currently on versions 22H2 and 23H2.

However, some systems are still under restrictions due to other factors such as the Auto HDR feature, the use of Dirac software for sound enhancement, integrated cameras, and specific applications like Safe Exam Browser and Easy Anti-Cheat. The list also includes PCs with Asphalt 8 (Airborne) installed and certain ASUS devices.
