KDE Adds Initial Wayland Session Restore Support

Nate Graham, a developer engaged in quality control in the KDE project, published the latest report on the development of KDE. The most significant change highlighted in the report was the addition of Kwin initial support for the wayland-protocol xdg-session-management. This change allows for the restoration of window conditions in the event of an interrupted session in a Wayland protocol-based environment, such as emergency server or application shutdown. The feature is set to be included in the upcoming release of KDE Plasma 6.4. Currently, only the window size, position, and virtual desktop bindings are restored, with plans to implement window content restoration in the future.

Other changes in KDE include:

  • In Plasma 6.4.0, window registration with keyboard combinations was processed.
  • Added an area for testing changes in the action dialog triggered by double-clicking with the mouse (source).
  • Ability to launch the Discover application manager directly from renewal notifications.
  • Ensured activation of the save button in the interface for editing elements in the exchange buffer only after changing the text (source).
  • Resolved the issue with the inability to follow references on configurator and application pages.
  • Added support for flatpak packages with alternative browsers on Chromium and Firefox engines, such as Librewolf and Ungoogled Chromium (
