The US government has resumed funding for activities related to maintaining the CVE database by Mitre, extending the contract for 11 months. However, the participants of the CVE Board announced the creation of a non-profit organization, CVE Foundation, to ensure stable activities and the independence of the CVE.
The manager of the CVE project has expressed concerns about the stability and neutrality of the service, which is currently reliant on state funding. In response, a coalition of active CVE Council members has been working on a strategy to transition CVE into an independent non-profit foundation. This new organization will be solely focused on continuing the mission of identifying vulnerabilities and maintaining the availability of CVE data.
