Crux 3.8 Linux Distribution Released

After two and a half years of development, the independent lightweight Linux distribution Crux 3.7 has been released. Developed since 2001, Crux follows the concept of kiss (keep it simple, stupid) and is oriented towards experienced users. The project aims to create a simple and transparent distribution based on BSD-like initialization scripts, with a simplified structure and a relatively small number of pre-built binary packages. Crux supports the port system, allowing users to install and update FreeBSD/Gentoo applications. The size of the iso-image for x86-64 architecture is 1.7 GB.

In the new release of Crux 3.8, updated versions of system components are included, such as Linux 6.12, Glibc 2.40, GCC 14.2.0, Binutils 2.43.1, and Sysvinit 3.14. The release also features new additions like NVME-CLI, RDFind, LIBBSD, Libcap-H, and Libxcrypt. The default environment includes the X-server (Xorg-Server 21.1.16, Mesa 25.0), but Wayland protocol usage is now available as an option. The ISO-image is designed for hybrid performance, suitable for booting from DVD and USB drives, with UEFI support during installation.
