4Mlinux 48.0 Distribution Released

4MLinux has released version 48.0, a minimalist user distribution that stands on its own and features a graphic environment based on the JWM window manager. This versatile system can be used for playing multimedia files, solving user problems, recovery after failures, and as a platform for launching mini-servers. The live-image (x86_64, 1.6 GB) with a graphic environment and a cut-off console assembly (x86_64, 16.1 MB) can be downloaded here.

In this latest version, updated versions of core packages include Linux 6.12, Busybox 1.36.1, Mesa 24.3.3, Perl 5.40.0, Python 2.7.18, Python 3.13.1, and Ruby 3.4.1. User applications such as Libreoffice 25.2, Gnome Office (Abiword 3.0.5, GIMP 2.10.38, Gnumeric 1.12.59), Firefox 137.0, Chrome 135.0, Thunderbird 128.9, Audacious 4.4.2, VLC 3.0.21, SMPlayer 24.5.0, and Wine 10.4 have also been updated.

  • The video editor kino is now included in the basic supply.
  • The video coder vvenc (h.266/vvc) has been added.
  • Additions with a YouTube client freetube and a sound synthesizer emulator bristol are available for separate download.
  • Lightweight HTTP and FTP servers can now be launched using implementations from the BusyBox composition. Additionally, thttpd 2.29 can be used as an HTTP server.
